Managed Kubernetes Services Comparison for UAE Deployments

20 November 2024 8 min read

EKS, AKS, and GKE each have strengths for UAE deployments. Here's a practical comparison to help you choose the right managed Kubernetes service.

Managed Kubernetes services eliminate the operational burden of running control planes, enabling UAE teams to focus on deploying and managing applications. But EKS (AWS), AKS (Azure), and GKE (Google Cloud) differ significantly in features, pricing, and ecosystem integration. Choosing the right service impacts your team's productivity and operational costs.

Amazon EKS

EKS integrates deeply with AWS services: IAM for authentication, VPC for networking, EBS/EFS for storage, and CloudWatch for monitoring. EKS supports the latest Kubernetes versions quickly and offers Fargate for serverless container execution. For UAE organizations with significant AWS investments, EKS provides the most natural Kubernetes path.

Azure AKS

AKS is free for the control plane (you only pay for worker nodes), making it the most cost-effective option for smaller deployments. AKS integrates with Azure AD for identity, Azure Monitor for observability, and Azure DevOps for CI/CD. For UAE enterprises using Microsoft 365 and Azure, AKS extends their existing security and identity model to Kubernetes workloads.

Google GKE

GKE is widely considered the most mature managed Kubernetes offering — not surprising given Google's creation of Kubernetes. GKE Autopilot fully manages nodes, reducing operational overhead to near-zero. Advanced features like multi-cluster management, Anthos for hybrid deployments, and tight integration with Google's data services make GKE compelling for data-intensive UAE applications.

Decision Framework

Choose EKS if your infrastructure is primarily AWS. Choose AKS if you're a Microsoft-centric enterprise or want the lowest entry cost. Choose GKE if operational simplicity is paramount or you're running data-heavy workloads. For multi-cloud Kubernetes, consider tools like Rancher or Crossplane that abstract provider differences.

Bayden's cloud engineers have deployed Kubernetes across all three major providers for UAE organizations. We help you choose the right platform, design your cluster architecture, and build the operational practices needed for production Kubernetes.
